Israel and Palestine agree on UNCTAD work for Palestine 26 April 2012 At the UNCTAD XIII conference in Doha, Qatar, the delegations of Israel and Palestine were able to agree in consultations with all other delegations on the text of the future work programme of UNCTAD for Palestine. In the negotiated text of the outcome document termed "The Doha Mandate" adopted by consensus on 26 April 2012 at the conclusion of the Conference, stipulated the role of UNCTAD in relation to Palestine as: " Continue to assess the economic development prospects of the occupied Palestinian territory and examine obstacles to trade and development, and should strengthen its programme of assistance to the Palestinian people with adequate resources and effective operational activities, as part of the international community's commitment to building an independent Palestinian State, and with a view to alleviating the adverse economic and social conditions imposed on the Palestinian people, in line with the Accra Accord." The Accra Accord was the consensus document adopted at the conclusion of UNCTAD's last conference (UNCTAD XII) held in Accra, Ghana in April, 2008. |
