Qatar is dedicated to sustainable development, a determination also reflected in its commitment to cutting emissions beyond the regional targets and entering into strong, global partnerships to address this pressing issue, said H.E. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, Qatar.
Speaking at a special event of UNCTAD XIII dedicated to exploring opportunities for using natural gas as an engine of sustainable growth, Dr. Al-Sada reflected on the challenges facing commodity-dependent developing countries and on strategies for reducing poverty through value-addition and value-retention in local communities.
Secretary General of UNCTAD, Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, highlighted the importance energy plays in the economic growth of all countries. Energy is one of the key ingredients for achieving inclusive economic growth, he said. Qatar has been an amazing example of how to reduce gas flaring and move towards more sustainable energy use, Dr. Supachai noted in his concluding remarks.
